  1. SnapShot/32 brings professional quality, convenient Windows
  2. 95 and NT screen captures to your fingertips. It was
  3. designed for ease of use, with powerful and useful features
  4. to aid the professional as well as support the needs of the
  5. occasional user. Use it just a few times - you'll find it to
  6. be indispensable.

  8. SnapShot/32 was selected by Siemens Nixdorf as a standard
  9. software component distributed with their powerful CELSIUS
  10. personal workstations! Read more about this in our help file.

  12. Some of the more impressive features are listed here; this
  13. is but a partial list. The best way to get to know
  14. SnapShot/32 is to simply use it!

  16.    Save your image as a BMP, GIF, JPEG file. GIFs can
  17.    optionally be interlaced and include transparent back-
  18.    grounds, and SnapShot/32 will create JPEG files, including
  19.    the new progressive format JPEGs, that is becoming popular
  20.    on World Wide Web. BMP graphics can be saved in 16, 256,
  21.    64K or 16M colors.

  23.    Include the cursor image in your capture for a special
  24.    look few capture programs can bring to you.

  26.    Choose your own HotKeys that quickly capture the entire
  27.    Desktop, any Rectangle you outline, or the highlighted
  28.    Window or Client, and automatically repeat the capture
  29.    every x seconds or by using another HotKey.

  31.    Automatically save each of your captures to a file by
  32.    default - you can even trigger new captures every x
  33.    seconds and have the filename incremented.

  35.    Print your capture direct from SnapShot/32 - it will
  36.    expand the image to the size of the paper and margins
  37.    that you set, and even add a frame, reverse, or reduce
  38.    the output to black and white!

  81. INSTALLATION
  82. ------------

  84. Install this program by uncompressing the SNAPxxx.ZIP file
  85. to an empty directory on your hard disk and add its icon to
  86. Windows 95 or NT. SnapShot/32 is courteous; it does not
  87. litter your drive with other files. Uninstalling the program
  88. is as simple as removing the files you have created, but we
  89. think that once you try SnapShot/32, it will become a
  90. permanent resident. Which leads us to the next topic...

  92. Register your copy of SnapShot/32 by selecting "Register"
  93. under the program's Help menu, or from within the help menu.
  94. This program is a 'try before you buy' shareware program
  95. that relies on your support for continued development, and
  96. single user registration is only $20.00. When you register
  97. SnapShot/32 you will receive a code that enables additional
  98. features and become eligible for priority support. You will
  99. also be able to obtain free updates of the program through
  100. our Web page (address below) with which you can use your
  101. registration code, until the next major release.

  167. save options saved and restored from the registry between
  168. runs. Also auto-save now uses bitmap options setting from
  169. Save As... dialog for the format of bitmap it creates.

  178. Added JPEG read/write. Fixed GIF output to do dithering
  179. when reducing colors to 256 from hi-color modes (this is
  180. an option on File/Save As dialog). Changed Save dialogs

  182. just one Save As... dialog. In capture window/client mode
  183. added a blinking frame that shows what will be captured
  184. as you move the mouse cursor around.
  185. Other new features - drag and drop BMP, GIF or JPG file from
  186. file manager or Win95 folder to SnapShot/32 window to open and
  187. view it, or start Snap32 with a command line argument to open
  188. that particular file.
  189. Added "Snapshot Options..." item under "Options..." menu.
  190. You can set there "Auto Print" and "Auto Copy" actions
  191. that are taken right after a snapshot is done. The image
  192. will be printed on the default printer and/or copied to
  193. the Windows clipboard. You may also turn off the "Auto
  194. Restore" feature and keep SnapShot/32 window minimized
  195. (in Windows 95 taskbar) after each snapshot.
  196. Added keyboard shortcut keys for Edit/Copy (Ctrl-C), Paste 
  197. (Ctrl-V) and Clear (Ctrl-X) functions.  Also added "Options" 
  198. to Save in BMP format, that allows to select bitmap type (1, 
  199. 4, 8 or 24 bits per pixel).

  219. characters). Also moved registry entries for window
  220. position, print setup and hot keys to HKEY_CURRENT_USER

  225. Fixed the printing bug under Windows 95 (it would not print
  226. at all), introduced since ver. 2.34.
  227. Changed the way license numbers are generated. Until now the
  228. numbers were based on the name of the machine, where the
  229. program was running. Now they are based on the name of the
  230. owner, so that people could use SnapShot/32 on several
  231. machines. Still the "single user license" number must be
  232. entered separately on each machine, but since it is tied to
  233. the owner name, one can install it e.g. on her/his desktop
  234. and laptop computer independently. The name of the owner
  235. appears in the "Help/About" box. People who registered
  236. earlier and have licenses based on machine names can upgrade
  237. to a "single user license" at no cost by sending me an email
  238. message or a letter containing their machine name and old
  239. license number. The old licenses will still work.

  242. Bug fix: SnapShot/32 saves its position and window size on
  243. exit, and when restarted, its window is positioned as
  244. before.  This created problem when the saved position was
  245. completely off-screen so the window was not visible.  Fixed
  246. by checking for any corner of SnapShot/32 window being off-
  247. screen, and if so - repositioning the window to the center
  248. of the screen.  Also modified the message that appears if
  249. SnapShot/32 can not register its hot keys, e.g.  due to
  250. another program (sometimes another copy of SnapShot/32)
  251. using them.  This message is less cryptic now, explains the
  252. reason and suggests changing the keys with "Configure Hot
  253. Keys" dialog under "Options" menu. Also fixed: "Enable hot
  254. keys" check box in hot keys setup dialog was not doing
  255. anything.

  258. Added ability to read GIF files, but only in registered
  259. version. You may read-in GIF file to view it, print it,
  260. translate to BMP file or change the GIF file attributes like
  261. interlaced mode and transparent background.

  264. Working on a MAP file for a GIF image for one of my WEB
  265. pages I needed to read coordinates of points on the bitmap.

  270. There seems to be a bug in Win95 betas - when asking how
  271. many colors the display supports ( GetDeviceCaps( dhdc,
  272. BITSPIXEL ) call ) it says "2" even if it is in 16 color
  273. mode. For this reason the bitmaps or GIFs saved in 16 color
  274. mode were black and white only. Worked around this bug by
  275. forcing 16 colors always if less colors are reported.

  278. Added hot key configuration dialog.Added "Repeat last
  279. capture" function and hot-key. Added the "Auto capture and
  280. save" feature - save pre-defined screen area to a file every
  281. time the "Repeat last capture" hot key is pressed, or a
  282. specified time elapses. Added "save with cursor image
  283. included" option. Fixed a problem with hot-keys, which did
  284. not operate under NT 3.5 if SnapShot/32 window was not in
  285. foreground.
